Project management expert Erik Larson took leave of the United States this summer as part of his College of Business sabbatical. Larson taught at Chulalongkorn University (Chula), the oldest and one of the most prestigious universities in Thailand. Clad in uniforms and very formal, Thai students and European exchange students participated in Larson's English-only business and business accounting course. While there, Larson renewed ties with Arthur Stonehill International Business Program partners at Chula. He and Jack Bailes, professor emeritus in accounting, also met for dinner with half a dozen former OSU MBA alums in Bangkok. Alums included Earth Worrawas Wassanont, Kate Suchittra Chatpimolkul, Joanne Chuleeporn Pamornpathomkul, George Visessiri and Kim Piyasak Tangsivilaiporn.
As part of his sabbatical, an opportunity for faculty members to enhance contributions to the University or the College and conduct scholarly activities, Larson also visited China where he explored potential university collaborations and additional exchange program possibilities. At Sichuan University in Chengdu, Larson talked with business teachers, and at The Central University for Nationalities in Beijing, Larson assessed English instruction.
For the remainder of his sabbatical Larson will be putting together case studies as part of this project management research focus. He's also interested in virtual project management and how the College of Business can educate students on interfacing with overseas environments. |
