OSU Hosts Seminar Series on Entrepreneurial Success

An Oregon State University College of Business spring seminar series, "Entrepreneurial Success: It's Not Just the Money," starts on Monday, April 11.

Free and open to the public, the seven-week series is part of the university's fourth annual "Emerging Topics in Business Course." Perspectives on non-monetary aspects of entrepreneurial success will be presented by speakers who have had experiences in a variety of ventures.

All sessions are held from 6 to 7:20 p.m. on Mondays through May 23 in OSU's Milam Auditorium at Campus Way and 26th Street.

Johnny Falla, president of Future Social Innovators Network, starts the series on April 11 with "Challenging Popular Perceptions and Doing Great Things Through Social Entrepreneurship."

Justin Craig, OSU assistant professor of entrepreneurship, presents "The Dark Side of Entrepreneurship" on April 18, followed by a panel of entrepreneurs discussing "Balancing Work and Family - Rewards and Challenges" on April 25.

Mary Jubitz, chief executive officer of SMART - Start Making a Reader Today - will address entrepreneurial topics on May 2, followed by Stan Kramer and Steve McPhie, co-presidents of Qdoba Mexican Grill franchise operations in Oregon on May 9.

"Teaching Them to Fish: The Role of Entrepreneurship in International Relief and Development Work," will be presented by Mercy Corps director-at-large Paul Dudley Hart on May 16. The series wraps up on May 23 with a panel of OSU student entrepreneurs discussing "Weatherford Residential College Entrepreneurs: Sacrifices, Studies and Satisfaction."

The university's Weatherford Hall reopened last year after a $20 million renovation, transforming the 76-year-old building into a specially designed home for nearly 300 students in OSU's Austin Entrepreneurship Program. The hall's focus is on entrepreneurship.
